Exercise the Mind

The mind and human emotions work in a very similar way to the body.  The only way to gain lean muscle tissue is through intense physical effort. 

If I am trying to grow my biceps and am doing dumbbell curls I get myself to the point where I cannot complete one more rep no matter how hard I try…  and then I force myself to do 3 more!  This is the only way to make a muscle grow.  

It’s not the amount of time we put in the gym that counts,
it’s the amount of intensity and effort.

It’s not the amount of time we put in the gym that counts, it’s the amount of intensity and effort.   The mind and our emotions work exactly the same way.  If you are not constantly exercising positive emotional states such as joy, happiness, passion and motivation, these emotional muscles will never grow.  What we need are positive rituals and routines that do exactly that.

If you think this sort of things sound a bit corny, you are not alone!  I used to blow this sort of positive thinking thing off without a second thought!  But here’s something to think about if that’s you...  

If you wake up in the morning and hit the snooze alarm... then think about how bad your life and all the things you have to do today that you don’t want... then go to the bathroom to brush your teeth and look at the mirror and tell yourself how fat you are... and then grab a donut and pop before heading to work, you have a ritual and a routine that exercises emotional muscles!

In short, you are growing emotions that take you further away from the result you want to create.

You are exercising your depression, your anxiety, your worry and your fear.  In short, you are growing emotions that take you further away from the result you want to create.  The reason you haven’t been able to recognize it as that before today is simple.  You have done it for so long it’s an unconscious habit at this point.  That’s the point!  

So if we are really going to create the result we want in our bodies it begins by having positive rituals and routines that strengthen the emotions we want and need throughout the day.
